Nice intro Claire, looking forward to the next chapter. What a shame that such a high street giant held in high regard by the public had a head office that totally lost the plot over a decade.

Still, at least now we have Wellworths/Wellchester

Hi Graham - sorry I haven't replied before, still getting used to all this!! and luckily we are keeping very busy through the Easter hols. :-)
Yeah I have enjoyed reading your blogs and I hope mine will be as good..
I have had quite a few people ask questions since Alworths went into administration and this is why I thought I would give a small insight into my experiences.
I am pleased that we have spent time getting things right in Dorchester and when the time is right we will definitley look at opening another store, but I have always said we would walk before we run!!
I hope you enjoy the blog (next post on way any second!) and please do give me any feedback, it would be most useful.
Thanks,
Claire

Looking forward to it Claire - and congratulations on all that you've achieved so far!

You'll know that I've blogged a lot about the 'children of Woolies' before, including your Wellworths, Shop Direct's own 'Woolworths', and also Alworths.

With Alworths in administration and five of its shops already closed, I'm curious to hear whether you've been to an Alworths store, and why you think their business hasn't succeeded where yours has? Is it partly a case of them trying to open too many stores too quickly, before the business model is sufficiently honed?

On that theme, there has always been lots of media and online speculation about when, or whether, Wellworths might expand beyond Dorchester. Is that still a possibility, or are you happy to just focus on making your one store as big a success as it possibly can be?
